Couples Counseling
Couples counseling is indicated when tension in your relationship becomes unmanageable, and can also be useful before long term commitments are made. Whether you are a short or long term couple, counseling can help you improve communication skills as well as develop deeper empathy in your relationship.
Couples’ work tends to be solution focused, as well as process-oriented. As opposed to individual counseling, you will be able to see the dynamics of your relationship with your partner work out in the room. My approach is adaptable to issues specific to men and women with different ethnicities and family backgrounds, in both the straight and LGBTQIA+ communities.
Usually, we meet for an initial consultation to determine the personal fit, develop therapy goals, effective ways to reach your goals, and agree on a consistent meeting time.
Couples therapy is face-to-face, “talking” therapy, that will usually begin with 50 minute weekly visits. Depending on the treatment goals, people may meet their goals faster with more frequent visits. The therapy process is designed to be supportive and healing; sometimes clients may seek additional types of treatment such as individual work or groups in addition to the couples work.
