Gender Wellness for Children and Youth
Gender Wellness for children and youth is a subspecialty of child and developmental psychology. This area focuses on the wellbeing of children and their families who are gender creative, gender nonconforming, nonbinary, bigender, agender, and transgender. I work from a gender affirmative model of mental health care, and work to help families follow and understand their child’s gender journey. I collaborate with families, schools, and community organizations to establish safe settings at school. If needed, I work with families and medical professionals around gender affirming medical interventions.
I have worked in this field for over 25 years in various clinics and organizations in San Francisco, and co-founded the pediatric gender clinic at Kaiser, San Francisco. I am currently involved with Mind The Gap, a pediatric gender mental health consortium affiliated with UCSF Child and Adolescent Gender Center Clinic.
